Computerized Thermal and Electromyography Imaging
At Revolution Chiropractic Wellness Center we utilize state of the art technology to help us locate spinal subluxations (nerve interference) and to monitor your progress. Here are some commonly asked questions regarding scans:
How do Thermal and sEMG scanners work? What is the difference between the scans?
Thermal imaging measures the surface temperature of the skin along the spine and then compares between the left & right sides. Your spine should be the same temperature from side-to-side. The Insight? Thermal Scanner assesses autonomic function by measuring skin temperature differentials. On the segmental analysis graph, green, blue and red colors indicate mild, moderate and severe levels of thermal asymmetry respectively. Lack of symmetry may indicate interference to the autonomic (automatic) part of your nerve system - the part that coordinates and controls the optimal functioning of your organs and glands.
The Surface Electromyography (sEMG) scanner measures the electrical activity of the muscles along the spine. If muscles are pulling much harder on one side of the spine than the other, it can cause distortion to the spine. This can indicate interference to the motor part of your nerve system.

These are safe, painless and reliable analytical tests that measure the functioning of your nervous system & whether any messages from your brain to the rest of your body may be being compromised. These tests are unique in that they display the functioning of your nervous system without having to rely solely on symptoms. Since the health of your nervous system can determine the health of your body, this provides critical information, which is vital to your care.
Why do I need X-rays as well as Scans?
X-rays reveal the structure of your spine. They reveal the situation from a skeletal (boney) perspective. Primarily we use x-rays to determine spinal alignment and the relationship of one vertebra to another and the possibility of spinal nerve irritation. They allow us to see any obvious fractures and degenerative changes (spinal decay). The Thermal and sEMG scans provide information relating to the function of the spine and nervous system. If required for you, x-rays add to the other information and allow your chiropractor to plan the best care for you.
Are your Thermal & sEMG Scans Safe?
Yes, scanning is totally non-invasive. Nothing is put into the body. Thermal scanning utilises infrared sensors to measure body temperature change with out the use of radiation. sEMG scanning measures the electrical activity within the muscles themselves. Therefore, scanning as used at this centre is completely safe for everyone including children and pregnant women.
When should Scanning be performed?
As an initial baseline of spinal function prior to beginning care.
Periodically to monitor subluxation correction.
Following changes to your spine e.g., after Trauma.
