Holistic health focus of Osseo Business

From a session with a chiropractor, to massage, acupuncture or a spine analysis, a new wellness center opening next week in Osseo hopes to be a one-stop shop for healing the mind, body and spirit.

Led by Doctor Suzy Holmes, the Revolution Chiropractic Wellness Center will offer a holistic approach to health.

Holistic healing is a growing trend in medical care as people look for alternative ways to live healthy. Dr. Suzy Holmes and her sister, Christina Holmes, opened Revolution together to offer people a different option. Dr. Holmes says it's long overdue.

"What we're doing out there is not working," said Dr. Holmes. "Five out of six people will die of cancer or heart disease, our children are sicker than they've ever been and so an alternative method needs to be sought."

At the Aveda Institute in Minneapolis on Sunday, acupuncturists, healers and chiropractors like Holmes come together for Restore. It's a daylong event to promote holistic healing.

"I believe that this conference is bringing credibility to the holistic health field," said Katy Becker, a member of the Restore board of directors.

Becker is also scheduled to speak to participants about her holistic philosophy, which promotes a positive emotional connection to your body through exercise and movement.

"When a child gets hurt you don't just put antiseptic and put a band aid on," she explained. "You give them a hug, you give them a kiss, and you pat their back and tell them it's okay. And we're all human beings still, just because we get older doesn't mean we don't need care."

Restore is the brainchild of Pam LaBelle. With a background in marketing, LaBelle launched Restore to make the public more comfortable with holistic healing. She set out to make seemingly far-out words for some, like chakra, acupuncture or healing touch, feel safe and valid.

"I realized there is a huge need to build credibility to holistic healing," she said.

Meanwhile back in Osseo, Dr. Holmes and her sister Christina are busy putting the finishing touches on their new center. Despite having their hands full with the upcoming grand opening, Dr. Holmes said she made it a priority to attend the Restore conference this weekend. With sponsors like the Mayo Clinic and Abbott Northwestern on board, she believes holistic health is gaining more credibility every day.

"I  don't think that this will be the alternative anymore," said Dr. Holmes. "I think that people will understand and become empowered about why this way of living makes sense."
